Introduction to the Stinger 3 Disc Brake

The Stinger 3 Disc Brake wheelset is based around our full carbon tubular rim that is suitable for tubular tyres. This rim has a sculpted cross section that is aerodynamically tuned to offer the fastest, most stable ride per rim depth within the industry.

Featuring outstanding levels of lateral stiffness and vertical compliance out Stinger 3 Disc Brake rim is available in two slightly different rim version. The first version is the all out road version, designed for dancing up mountain passes and carving down hair raising descents. Ultimate performance for this version is realised with a good road tubular tyre of between 22mm and 25mm width. The second verson has been purely designed for the rougher stuff, namely pavè, gravel or cyclo cross. A slightly wider rim features within this incarnation that is conceived to aid the use of wider tubular tyres. The wider rim allows more tyre-to-rim adhesion area and more tyre "cradling" which in turn grants enhanced tyre stability allowing increased cornering performance and extra stability across rough ground.

Full carbon rim, super lightweight and aero.

The 33mm deep, 25mm wide (27mm wide in the CX version), bulbous profiled, full carbon rim is suitable for tubular tyres and offers a great blend of light weight climbing prowess and, due to the “Stability Control Technology” tuned profile, fantastic aerodynamic performance despite its relatively shallow depth. The increased rim width is designed to work harmoniously with the new breed of wider tubular tyres. This increased rim width helps to stabilise the tyre sidewall, altering the tyre-to-road footprint which in turn lowers rolling resistance and aids cornering grip.

Slick hubs

The rims then spin around our "545" Disc Brake hub set. This hubset features ABEC 5 hi-grade stainless bearings to minimise friction to a minimum all the while offering a good level of longevity. Our "545" disc hubs come as stock with either 12mm or 15mm thru axles at the front and 12mm at the rear. We also have a conversion available separately for standard quick release skewers allowing complete compatibility with any disc brake bike. Shimano/SRAM and Campagnolo compatibility is then offered ensuring that any bike set up is catered for before a 5 pawl, 46 tooth freehub affords rapid, efficient drive engagement.

Efficient build, adapted for disc brakes

Stiffness and strength is integrated in to the wheelset with Sapim CX-Ray spokes, hand laced and trued. Both front and rear wheels utilise 24 spokes built in a 2-cross pattern. This pattern ensures maximum wheel stiffness and efficiency even during all out sprints or hard uphill efforts but also copes admirably with the extra forces generated on the hubs and spokes by the improved braking performance of disc brakes.

The wheelset is completed with our own HED valve extenders.
